Using Document Inserts

Any Microsoft Word document can be inserted in the body of the report. INSPECTEXPRESS™ includes both blank and completed templates for additional inserts such as the inspection agreement, invoice, mold report etc. It is also easy to add your own inserts to the report.

Inserts can be included on the 'Start New Inspection' form, or when customizing the template in the 'Report Template Editor'.  They can be identified as the sections that begin with 'File-' and end with the '.docx' extension.

Note:

The Purpose and Scope and Exclusion sections that are written to the report are part of the Section Disclaimers - see Disclaimer Settings for more info on this topic.

Including Document Inserts

Documents can be included in the report by selecting to include the inserts on the Start New Inspection or Report Template Editor forms. If you wish to use a different document file (many others are included with the full installation of the software) select any 'File-.docx' from the Included Sections tab of the Report Template Editor form. Click the 'Browse File' button to choose a different file from the Inspect Express\Templates directory ('C:\Users\Public\Documents\Inspect Express V4\Templates\').  As with any other report sections, the inserts can be added to the report document in any order.

Document inserts can also be added to the report after the document has been created by positioning the cursor in the report document where you want the insert to be placed and selecting Doc Inserts->Insert Document from the main menu/toolbar.

Editing Document Inserts

Existing document inserts can be opened and edited by selecting  Settings->Edit Document Inserts from the main menu/toolbar. Edit the document as you would any Word document and save it.

Report Cover:
A default report cover (cover.docx) is shipped with the program and installed in the 'Templates' folder of the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Inspect Express V4\Templates directory. The inspector should update this cover with his own logo or create a new customized report cover. To install a new cover page rename the original file and name your new cover as 'cover.docx'. A cover page for a summary section (SummaryCover.docx) that is created as a separate document is also included and can also be customized.

The cover pages that are included contain text boxes with the text placeholders of 'Address', 'Client' and 'Inspector'. This text will be automatically replaced by the actual report details when the report is created. Do not change these placeholders if you want the program to fill in this information for you.

The report covers also have a blank area or example photo in the middle of the page. If you wish to insert a picture of the inspection properties, leave this area available. When you select Insert Image->Cover File Image from the menu, your image will be placed in this area according to the specification on the Image Settings form.

Standards of Practice:
The Standards of Practice that is being used by the program as selected on the Start New Inspection form can be edited as necessary. New standards can also be added to the Standards directory. To add a new Standards of Practice document, just place it in the Standards directory. This new document can then be selected on the Start New Inspection or Report Template Editor forms.

Inspection Worksheets:
The worksheets that are supplied can be modified as needed by the inspector to match their own inspection style, or modifications that the inspector has made to the input forms.

Adding your own Document Inserts

Any Microsoft Word document can be inserted in the body of the report. If you already have a document prepared that you wish to insert, follow these steps to include your document:

  1. Copy the document to the 'C:\Users\Public\Documents\Inspect Express V4\Templates' folder.

  2. On the 'Start New Inspection' form or 'Report Template Editor', select your choice of insert (i.e. File-Insert-1.docx).

  3. Click the 'Browse' button and select your file.

Use heading 1 and heading 2 in your inserts to include those headings text in your table of contents.
